Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 26, 2026

Onvard is designed to collect only the information needed to operate and improve the product. This Privacy Policy describes how the Onvard Chrome Extension and associated web service handle your data.

1. What data the Onvard Extension collects

When you click Analyze on a job posting page, the extension reads visible content from the current page and assembles a job payload containing:

  • Job title (extracted from the page or page metadata)
  • Company name
  • Location
  • Job description text (up to ~12,000 characters of visible posting content)
  • Page URL and source identifier (e.g., Greenhouse, Lever, LinkedIn, Indeed)

The extension also uses Chrome's storage permission to persist limited local data such as UI preferences and temporary analysis state.

2. How data is used

The job payload described above is sent to Onvard's backend service (POST /analyze-job) to generate analysis results, including:

  • Sponsorship outlook
  • Role level and scope
  • Risk level assessment
  • Hiring signals and recommendations

Onvard uses this data solely to provide the extension's job-analysis features and to improve analysis quality and product performance.

If you opt in to anonymous usage data collection, Onvard may also collect basic interaction data (e.g., analyze clicks, useful/not useful feedback, error events) and limited technical metadata (e.g., browser or request metadata) to improve the product.

3. Data storage

  • Locally: The extension may store limited data in Chrome local storage (via the storage permission) to support the user experience, such as UI preferences or temporary analysis state.
  • Server-side: Onvard's backend retains submitted job content, analysis results, and interaction data only as long as reasonably necessary to operate, improve, and protect Onvard, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

4. Data sharing

Onvard does not sell your personal data.

Onvard does not share submitted job content or analysis results with third parties, except as needed to:

  • Operate the service — including service providers working on Onvard's behalf (e.g., hosting infrastructure)
  • Comply with applicable law or legal process
  • Protect rights, safety, or property of Onvard, its users, or the public

Onvard does not use your data for unrelated advertising purposes.

5. Data you should not submit

Onvard does not need sensitive personal identifiers for normal use. Please do not submit passport numbers, visa numbers, SEVIS information, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive personal information unless explicitly requested for a specific feature.

6. Your choices

  • You choose which job postings to analyze — the extension only processes a page when you click the Analyze button.
  • Anonymous usage data collection is opt-in — you must explicitly enable it and can disable it at any time.
  • You can uninstall the extension at any time to stop all data collection.

7. Important limitations

Onvard is a decision-support tool. It provides job-search guidance based on job-posting language. Results are estimates, not guarantees. Onvard does not:

  • Submit job applications on your behalf
  • Provide legal, immigration, or employment advice

Always confirm details directly with the employer.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Onvard Extension after updates means you accept the revised policy.
